Why Your Neck Pain Isn’t Improving

Have you ever heard of terms like “straight neck” or “text neck”? These conditions result from poor neck posture, causing a loss of natural cervical curvature and placing excessive strain on the surrounding muscles and cervical spine itself.

As this condition progresses, it can lead to “cervical spondylosis,” which causes not only neck pain but also numbness in the arms and hands. If the symptoms are mild, massage and muscle relaxation may be sufficient, but once cervical spondylosis develops, fundamental treatment is necessary to prevent chronic pain. If these symptoms sound familiar, please refer to the next section for further details.

About Neck Pain Symptoms

Cervical spondylosis tends to cause severe pain when blood circulation is poor, such as in the morning after waking up or at the end of the day when fatigue peaks. The surrounding muscles become tense, restricting blood flow, which weakens their ability to support the cervical spine, leading to intense pain.

Over time, symptoms may progress beyond pain to include nerve pain and numbness. (People who find that pain relief patches or painkillers are ineffective often experience these symptoms.)

During this stage, even with treatment, symptoms can fluctuate daily. Some people panic and try to self-treat, only making things worse. It’s crucial to remain calm and not worsen the condition with improper methods.

Causes of Neck Pain

You’re likely aware that poor posture, excessive smartphone use, and prolonged computer work contribute to the development of cervical spondylosis.

Fixing the neck in one position or maintaining poor posture concentrates stress on the cervical joints.

Once cervical spondylosis develops, treatment must follow three stages:

1. Reducing nerve inflammation and swelling

2. Improving blood circulation in the muscles

3. Restoring and maintaining proper posture

In particular, improving the condition of the trapezius muscle, which supports the entire cervical spine, is essential. Once the issue is properly addressed, maintaining a pain-free lifestyle becomes much easier, making the initial treatment phase critical.
